OUR BISHOP ! -- NOW SHARED WITH THE WHOLE CHURCH
I give deep and abundant thanks for the journey that my brother bishops and I have shared these last months. It has been humbling, joy-filled, challenging, and at times even frustrating, but it has been a community of pilgrims, a band which has grown closer in spite of our differences. We have learned that we have far more in common than anything that separates us. Any one of them could have been elected today, and any one would serve capably and with distinction. May God continue to richly bless Bishops Neil Alexander, Francisco Duque-Gomez, Ted Gulick, Charles Jenkins, Henry Parsley, and Stacy Sauls. May their dioceses recognize the ways in which they and their dioceses have been blessed by this experience. I give thanks in the knowledge that the people of those dioceses will welcome them home with warmth and affection –– and with gifts strengthened by their part in this discernment. I give thanks for the leadership of our current Presiding Bishop, and his wise and careful example. My particular prayer is that his abundant gifts will continue to be shared with the wider church for many, many years to come. I am exceedingly grateful to the people of the Diocese of Nevada, who called a stranger to join them in the desert. We have pushed and prodded and dreamed together about a vision of God’s reign in that blessed place. The hardest part of this work will be saying Adios and Adieu. As much as I know that God continues with them, it will not be easy for me to go. May this greatly blessed church be the vehicle and leader in building the Reign of God in our day. Glory to God, whose power, working in us, can do more than we can ask or imagine. Glory to God from generation to generation in the Church, and in Christ Jesus for ever and ever. [Eph. 3:20-21] +Katharine
