GENERAL CONVENTION 2003
WHAT IS THIS THNG CALLED GENERAL CONVENTION?
like to give my own brief witness. I found the level of debate and discussion
exhilarating and could not have been more proud to be an Episcopalian. With
terrible pain in one foot (plantar's fasciatis) I went from early morning
hearings, to worship, to chatting with friends and exhibitors, sat through
the morning and afternoon legislative sessions in awe at the wisdom and the
openness of deputies speaking on the floor, then off to evening events
and hearings or conversations -- and it was joy upon joy. I found the best of the church in the names we all know and in deputies and visitors speaking from their own experience and spirituality.
It is very hard work -- and a unique experience. How this large a group moves ahead with vision and integrity is a miracle probably surpassing the feeding of the four or five thousand, but the miracle happens year after year.
It is a rich feast with Christ as our host, with many cooks and others working so hard to make the meal so good.
