GENERAL CONVENTION 2003
A MIDDLE WAY?
Yes, there is no easy healing of the breach, which is not only "out there" or "among you all," but in here, in my own heart and mind. We are not just dealing with someone else's sexuality, we are dealing with our own, whether we are heterosexual, bisexual, or homosexual. I have avoided writing posts because I have felt the acrimonious nature of the debate and did not want to contribute to it nor be a target of it.
I was part of the Province IV Synod meeting that voted, along with the unanimous recommendation of our bishops, to try to avoid solving this issue of human sexuality by legislation.
I still believe that is the best napproach, although it will not satisfy those on the extremes or those who want a definitive conclusion. But maybe, just maybe, it is in line with the via media, the middle way, our Anglican heritage.
In the love of Christ,
—The Rev. Donald Goodheart, c4, North Carolina
