Mission District Reaffirmation
After re-affirming their ordination vows, Nevada clergy in the Northwest Mission District hared lunch together on April 5, 2007. The gathering at Trinity parish in Reno brought together nearly 20 Priests and Deacons who took the opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss parish plans, which helps spread fresh ideas and solutions for addressing common issues.
A surprise guest at the gathering was Richard Schori, husband of our Presiding Bishop, who had come for a Board meeting in the afternoon for the Galilee Episcopal Camp & Conference Center. Dick is both chief photographer for this Diocesan website and the Webmaster of the Galilee website.
Bishop Jerry Lamb, recently retired
from the Diocese of Northern California, is assisting in Nevada until
our next Bishop is selected in October. He was both the celebrant
and homilist at the reaffirmation Eucharist and called attention to
the central importance of Baptism wherein all members of the Church
are called and made "priests."
The job of the ordained clergy are to lead, encourage and help identify the ministry of everyone, he reminded those gathered. Bishop Lamb indicated that he had learned to deeply appreciate Nevada's understanding of the role of all baptised persons in "Total Ministry" during the short time he has been among us. Those attending had an opportunity to visit and develop a deeper relationship with Bishop Lamb diring lunch. Similar gatherings for re-affirmation of vows are being held in each of the 4 Mission Districts. At the same time, oils are blessed and distributed to District clergy for use in chrism and healing during the coming year.
