SLATE OF NOMINEES FOR THE 10th BISHOP of
THE EPISCOPAL DIOCESE OF NEVADA ANNOUNCED.
The Standing Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Nevada has announced a slate of five priests to be placed in nomination at the electing convention on Friday, October 12th, 2007 at the South Point Hotel Convention Center in Las Vegas. At the same time the Diocese has opened the Petition Process for additional nominations until August 1, 2007.
During the week of September 16, all the nominated candidates together will participate in “walkabout” Question and Answer sessions throughout the Diocese, open to all members of the diocese and local communities. The nominees announced today are:
The Rev. Dr. Cathy L. Deats, Rector of St. James Church, Hackettstown, N.J.,
The Very Rev. Dan Thomas Edwards, Rector of St. Francis Church, Macon, Georgia,
The Rev. Dr. Charles Eric Funston, Rector of St. Paul's Church, Medina, Ohio,
The Rev. Albert John Keeney, Rector of St. John's Church, Canandaigua, N.Y. and
The Rev. Dr. Susan Burns, Rector of Church of the Redeemer, Bethesda, Maryland,
The new Bishop of Nevada will succeed The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, who was installed as the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church last November. An Episcopal Bishop is responsible for oversight and care of churches and ministries in a geographical area.
The Episcopal Diocese of Nevada encompasses approximately 110,600 square miles including the entire state of Nevada and the town of Bullhead City, Arizona. There are 37 worshipping congregations which comprise a total of 6,000 members. The Diocesan offices are located in Las Vegas and Reno.
