REPORTS OF PAST CONFERENCES
SPRING, 2006 (Zephyr Point Presbyterian
Lake Tahoe) May 11-13, 2006:
Fresh Start Leadership
program for Clergy was led by The Rev's Kate Atkinson, Mike Link
and Helen McPeak
SPRING, 2005 (Galilee, April 14-16):
The first evening those in attendance took a few
moments each to introudce themselves and talk about something during
the past year which they celebrate. Everyone knew one another much
better at a deeper level as we read night prayers together.
Bishop Katharine led a discussion if IDENTITY on
the second day and there was much sharing of how we each felt about
our roles as priest, deacon and our lay vocation. The majority of
Nevada clergy are involved in secular employment of one type or
another or are retired from such employment. The strains between
the 2 roles and the conflicts are real in our lives and make us
more aware of the baptismal covenant which we all share -- clergy
and laity alike.
Further discussion on the topic involved ETHOS (What
it means to be "clergy." and the related concept: ETHIC
which is how we live. We looked at commonalities and particularities,
obgligation to self and others, learning & continuing education,
prayer & study, leisure, play, sabbath and Compassion Burnout.
Further topics included care and stewardship of resources, conflicts
of conscience, just distribution of services and qualifications
and competence. The beginnings of a "Customary" for the
Diocese was distributed. The document is currently under development.
