SEARCH & TRANSITION COMMITTEES COMMISSIONED
In delivering the homily at the Commissioning Eucharist for the Bishop Search and Transition Committees, the Rev. Jim Kelly, chair of the Diocesan Standing Committee spoke of the character of the process.
"A true example from the Gospels for the work of the committees," he said, is "Jesus' spending the night on a mountain in prayer before calling his Disciples."
He said we should seek to emulate "the character of a prayer group," in our deliberations, recognizing the presence of the Holy Spirit at the center of each Committee's life.
The Rev. Julius Rogina has agreed to be chaplain to both Committees during the discernment process, as we seek the new spiritual leader for our Diocese.
The Rev. Elizabeth Tattersall, secretary of the Standing Committee, presided at the Eucharist, held at St., John's in the Wilderness, and was assisted by Deacon Betty Ihfe. The Commissioning Eucharist on Friday, December 1, 2006 was the beginning of the search process and was followed by 2 days of deliberations and planning at Zephyr Point Presbyterian conference center in Zephyr Cove, Lake Tahoe.
